Irvine All Net offers boys and girls teams from 5th through 8th grades. The nucleus of our 5th grade All-Net teams are the prior year's 4th grade All-Star players. The existing 6th - 8th grade teams may need only one or two players to fill out their roster. Some grades may have a 2nd or 3rd team if the talent level and coaching interest exists. All-Net teams conduct mandatory try-outs prior to the Winter season where each of the prior years All-Star nominees are invited to attend. Try-outs are open to any player wishing to participate. If you are NOT an existing All-Net player we suggest you register for regular NJB to secure a slot. If selected for All-Net your registration fee will be 100% refunded.
All-Net offers 3 levels of play designated as Blue (highest), Green, and White (lowest). Each All-Net coach will decide which level his/her team should play. During the Winter 2006-07 season there were on the order of 250 All-Net teams located throughout Southern California. Each level having multiple groups based on talent and/or city location. National does its best to limit travel by grouping teams based on location. However, travel can be significant in the Blue (highest) division as fewer teams sign up. A typical long distance is considered Long Beach, Dana Point, or Redlands.
If selected for an All-Net team each player will register through NJB Headquarters ($198-$215) who conducts all registration and scheduling activities. Each team must also pay a team fee ($150-$175) to national. All-Net typically provides a 14 game schedule over an approximate 12 week span requiring several doubleheaders. Games are usually scheduled for Sundays but may be on a Saturday if gym availability dictates. Doubleheaders can either be one game on Saturday and one on Sunday or more typically, both on Sunday. It should be noted that All-Net imposes no player participation rules so it is possible for a player to have very little playing time. All-Net players receive uniforms with their registration package.
There are no all-stars or championship series but playoffs and a national championship tournament does exist for additional fees. All are conducted through National Headquarters.
Note that none of the All-Net registration fees are returned to the local chapter. As a result, each All-Net team must pay a $250 to $300 fee to Irvine IYBL to help offset costs for the photo package, participation awards, and most significantly home game gym time. Each team is also responsible for paying the scorekeepers $8 per game for their services. Admission to regular league All Net games is currently free of charge for spectators.
